Behavioral Health Intervention Services (BHIS)

Who is eligible?
Any child between the ages of 4-18 who has Title XIX (Medicaid) and has a mental health diagnosis (e.g., ADHD, Adjustment Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, Depressive Disorder, Conduct Disorder, etc)

What is BHIS?
Behavioral Health Intervention Services are skill-based interventions that focus on reducing mental health symptoms by teaching vital life-skills such as: healthy communication, anger management, emotion management, coping, organizational skills, conflict resolution and sustaining attention.  Your family coach will work with you and your family on a weekly basis in your home, while working toward achieving the goals set forth by you and the Therapist.  BHIS are designed to not only benefit the client, but the entire family and can be utilized in conjunction with other services such as Therapy & Counseling or Substance Abuse Treatment.  BHIS is a preventative support service intended to keep families together and out of the system - short-term interventions (1-2 years) to ensure long-term success.

Would my child benefit from BHIS?
Your child would benefit from services if s/he diplays a combination of the following behaviors: poor listening and communication, verbal or physical aggression, truancy, disrespectful behaviors, depression, anxiety, unable to pay attention or sit still, lack of friends or meaningful relationships.

Services are provided in the following ways:
   (1) individal sessions with the child in the home, community or Life-Line office
   (2) as a family, addressing family dynamics and how they affect the child
   (3) in a group setting during a Life-Line skills group or
   (4) in a crisis situation to de-escalate the child

How do I get started?
First, call one of our offices at a location near you to make an appointment with a therapist who will conduct a mental health assessment and determine if your child is eligible for services.  If your application is approved by Magellan (Mediaid) then you will be assigned a Family Coach (behavioral health counselor) and receive services for a treatment period of 6 months.  After 6 months, the client will need to again receive a mental health assessment by a Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA/Therapist) to determine if services need to continue.
