LLR Reaches to Uganda to Fulfill its Mission

"Whether in heartland America or the villages of Uganda, Life-Line Resources crosses borders to fulfill its mission to “Strengthen individuals, one person, family and community at a time.”

May 9th, 2011, Kalonga Village, Uganda
– Life-Line Resources, a Des Moines-based Mental Health Agency, has partnered with Wavuuvi Africa to sponsor a building project and feeding program in Uganda, East Africa.  It all began when one of their employees decorated her office with the passion of her life – Africa and poetry.  As an effort to raise money for her project in Uganda, she designed “I Love Africa” t-shirts.  To her surprise, her first customer was Terry Robinson, one of Life-Line’s owners.  He browsed some photos of Kalonga Village, listened to the vision and immediately responded to the need.  He bought three t-shirts followed by a financial donation the next day.

“I was so happy I cried and hugged Terry.  As a new employee I never expected that kind of response.  I’ve come to realize that they’re not doing business but they’re on a mission to get business done.  They’re not business men, but passionate visionaries who have found the purpose of their lives and are doing something about it.”

Kalonga Village is a remote village located in central Uganda.  Untouched by technology and modern civilization, this community is in need of even the basic necessities.  The bathroom that Life-Line Resources funded provides sanitation and helps to prevent the spread of diseases such as intestinal worms and typhoid.  But the projects that Life-Line funded did more than provide sanitation, they provided hope and encouragement to a 67-family village who were about to give up.  What may seem like a small gesture to many of us was a reminder to Kalonga Village that God loves them and has not forgotten about them.

Life-Line Resources is known for its ability to create community change through its cultural diversity and out-of-the-box business strategy.  In this instance their strategy was simply to give.

Since its inception in 2006, Life-Line Resources has served over 3,000 families and expanded to 16 locations across the state. They not only provide a plethora of mental health services, but also help the community through their non-profit Life-Line Youth Foundation which provides clothing, food and activities free of charge to the community.

Wavuuvi Africa is a music and missions ministry dedicated to the complete restoration of Kalonga Village.  Samuel and Jessica Luwandaga are local artists who use their gifts of music and poetry to raise money for the projects of Wavuuvi Africa.  They live in West Des Moines, Iowa.  For more information please visit www.wavuuviafrica.org or check out their page on Facebook at www.facebook.com/wavuuvi.africa.
